Kinds Of Light Plum Botanical Wine Cooler
The first thing we named "Kinds of Light," was a wild hybrid of Sour Farmhouse Ale and local chardonnay grape skins that open-fermented in used Italian Chianti puncheons that we took the top off of. A few years after that, we opened up Kinds of Light Wine, our nomadic sister winery project focusing on native yeast fermented, locally sourced wines. As our Sour Farmhouse program and winery work together, we try to keep blurring the lines between pretty much anything we can ferment - beer, wine, fruit, cider.
In that spirit innovation, and a little bit of nostalgia, we're excited to share with you our latest Botanical Wine Cooler: a blend of red and yellow plums, seyval blanc grapes, lemon verbena and lemongrass. It is a playful, medium-ABV, ode to the bounty of the Hudson Valley that stands somewhere between a Capri Sun, a Bartles & James wine cooler, and a fizzy Italian soda. We skip the flavorings of some of those 90's gems in favor of locally-sourced ingredients: our plums we grown at Mead Orchards in Tivoli, NY, our grapes out in the Finger Lakes, and our botanicals at our own little herb farm at Michael's house.
We taste lemon Italian ices, eucalyptus hard candies, and Nik-L-Nips little wax bottles. It's a spritzy, tart, and refreshing choice on an end-of-summer afternoon.
