Aria I & II
Aria I and II were made in collaboration with our friends and neighbors over at Obercreek Brewing Company in Wappingers Falls, NY. We’ve been fans of their beer since they started brewing, and we were super excited to finally make something with them. Aria I, a classic HVB Sour IPA, was remodeled to highlight some of the brewing techniques that Obercreek uses in crafting their Quartet IPA series.
We took it one step further and added fruits to accent the dominant characteristics of each hop. Motueka is brought out by lime zest, Citra by lemon peel, and Sabro by a healthy addition of toasted coconut. It’s a melted ice pop on the beach.
Aria II is a blended Farmhouse Lager that showcases the possibilities of making a complex and funky beer that is still wildly drinkable. It is brewed with Hudson Valley Malt Pilsner Malt, and hopped with Saaz from Chimney Bluff in Wolcott, NY.
We blended that base lager with a selection of Obercreek’s spontaneously fermented wild ales, the Rusticity series, and our 2-year old oak aged lager barrels.
The result is a hoppy, kellerbeir-like lager with a subtle oak richness, a light brettanomyces funk, and a touch of lemony acidity. Obercreek’s head brewer Kyle said it was beautiful.
